Overseas buy to let, holiday rentals and holiday property

Introduction

In recent years very many people have been attracted to purchasing property in other countries, sometimes as an investment, sometimes for their own holidays and quite often a combination of the two. In addition some are attracted to moving to another country. The driving force behind this is sometimes the sun and weather, but also often the difference in both the cost of property and cost of living, allowing them to get a far better lifestyle  than they can now afford.

There are many success stories, and some disasters. Many opportunities and some who are caught out. In this section, we have the same problem as any author, in that we cannot provide all the details on every country and culture, and our own knowledge tends to be restricted to the property market, and other experiences gained to date. Clearly if you are proposing to move a family to another country the information we can provide here is only a starting point, you will need to look in far more detail, and understand the problems and advantages in greater detail.

It is important that we always remember that any other country is a different culture, however similar it may seem, and that when we visit that culture on business or on holiday, we see only a small part. If we get involved in owning property or living there we will be subject to the same laws, red tape, taxes and most other aspects of the culture as all the others who live there.

In this section, we have looked at overseas investments, assuming you already have the basic knowledge relating to buy to let in the UK. If you do not then we suggest you first read the Basic tutorial series, in the UK buy to let section.

Wider range of international help now becoming available to us

We have done deal with a number of other clubs including Property Club International, Self Build Homes Club and Holiday Property Club, under this deal all of the clubs are to make their services available to the members of other clubs in the arrangement. In order for this to work, we added a range of new member types, based on those in use by Property Club International and the Self Build Homes Club, who are both international.  Existing members were defined as being of the copper member type but given the option to switch to other members types under various deals we could offer.

There area number of benefit  to our members interested in international property including

  • We can all share resources and research, and each can specialize in certain aspects now without having to stretch ourselves to cover all the areas members quite naturally wanted us to over.
  • Growth of new areas can be faster
  • By adopting the commissioning structure some other are already using, we have expandability, up to now a major holding factor

The disadvantage is that it has slowed down some of what we have been planning to do, but with so much on may not have got around to it anyway.

Development state of this series

As this series is in development, expect regular new articles and some existing ones to be regularly updated and extended. Until the development phase is complete we will not mark up either new or modified articles, so you will need to check them from time to time. When this phase is complete, this note and the 'series in development' labels will disappear and new and modified articles will be flashed up for a time after changes are made. Your comments, experience and any information that you can provide is always most welcome.

Holiday Property Club and friendly websites

We work with the Holiday Property Club, and we are currently looking at how the information held on this web site and on their new website in development can best work together. In order to share not only information and articles but also contact list and allow links to be maintained to many other useful sources we are converting some parts of this website into what are known as friendly systems, this allows us to show parts of other friendly websites within our website and for them to also share our information on theirs. This change means that a lot of what was a part of our reference section is now being transferred into pages with another friendly system that has a better format for links.

This has caused a slight delay in developments of new articles in this section, but once complete will mean that far more information becomes available and is kept up to date in the longer term.

Services available through the Property Pension Club (us) will not be reduced, so all existing services in relation to holiday properties will continue to be available through us as well as through the Holiday Property Club, plus many of our services will be available to the Holiday Property Club to enable them to develop more for its members.
